We tried leaving our two pups home with the grandparents for four days, but that didn’t work out very well for them…Dusty especially (shown on the far left). On day one, my mother called to let me know that he wouldn’t come downstairs to go potty. Turns out Dusty was stuck in one of the bedrooms. Thank goodness my college-aged son decided to stay home. He took care of it.

Day two, I get the same phone call about Mr. Dusty. This time he wasn’t stuck, but parked himself in the game room upstairs and wouldn’t even come down for treats. I was told he’d peek down the stairs but go back to his station. Days three and four weren’t any different. The worst part is, the pups would howl in the middle of the night. My mom said “they were crying, not barking” — that did it. From now on the pups were coming with us on our camping adventures.

Our solution…pet cameras. I highly recommend getting a few for your furry loved ones! We ended up purchasing two Geeni Smart Indoor Surveillance Cameras for our travel trailer. Such a relief!

The next time we went camping, on the first day of leaving the pups alone in the camper, I checked in on them often from the phone app. Every now and then they would howl and bark, but I was proud of them…they did okay their first time alone in the camper.

The two way audio was a plus. Not only could we hear the pups, but with the push of a button (on the app), they could hear us too. Personally, when we tested the volume, I couldn’t hear through the cameras very well, but the pups seemed to respond whenever someone spoke into the app.

It was pretty simple to get the cameras going once I hooked my iPhone up to the campsite’s wifi.

  1. I downloaded the Geeni app, plugged both cameras in to power them up, the lights started blinking.
  2. Then I clicked the plus (+) sign on the app and followed the prompts.
  3. The video from one of the cameras popped up on my phone and I could choose which one I wanted to view. — Happiness. Camping with the whole family just became possible.

We were off to a good start, except on the next day, we couldn’t seem to hook up to the campsite’s wifi. The camp attendant said it was fine on their end, so you may run into having to use your cell phone’s hotspot to get the cameras working. You’ll have to check with your cell phone carrier about how much data you have. We have unlimited data for the whole family with Verizon, so it worked out okay.

Hope it works out for your pups too!
